I went to a workshop led by Crista Bell, a Seattle based poet/comedian/performing artist who introduced me to the idea of self-dates. Every week since, I take myself on a date: I don't invite anyone else to join and I never stand myself up! Sometimes it's an unplanned trip to the library, sometimes I walk through a park, sometimes it's a slice of pie and a cup of coffee. Even if I can't afford the time or can't spend a lot of money, I always do it. It's an important ritual and makes me feel balanced and re-centered when I go back into the world full of people.
