Simplifying Access to Improve Outcomes by Ginger Zielinskie

It’s time to start thinking about the safety net differently. A net is designed to trap or ensnare–no agency wants people to get stuck in a net of services. Human service agencies and the public- and private sector organizations that collaborate with them want to help people move up and out to a better, independent, more economically stable and healthy life. We need to begin to look at the safety net more like a safety ladder. Interconnected rungs, strengthened by streamlined service delivery and better cross-program integration and coordination, can create a supportive and sturdy ladder that provides comprehensive support and guidance for people climbing their way to better health and economic outcomes–a better life.
